What the map shows
Each Thiessen polygon assigns every point of the territory to its nearest weather station and gives it the rainfall measured by that station. The legend has ten classes of October totals, from very light blue (28–50) to dark blue (178–667). The highest totals appear over the Cévennes, the southeast, the Massif Central, the Cotentin, Brittany and Corsica. Météo-France weather data, supplied as 96 CSV files by département, were combined to compute the polygons. The method has limits: where stations are few, polygons are large and smooth out differences, especially in mountains.
