Visitors
To count map views, the gallery records anonymous events (viewing a map page, opening a map, clicking through to the original) with a visitor identifier computed from the IP address and the browser, salted and renewed every day. The IP address is never kept and the identifier cannot be used to follow you from one day to the next. Raw events are deleted after 90 days.
If you pick a language with the language switcher, the gallery remembers it in a lang cookie, so that the home page opens in that language on your next visits. Strictly functional, it holds nothing but the chosen language, is never used for tracking and is kept for one year.
Audience measurement
To learn how the gallery is used and improve it, it measures its audience with PostHog, hosted in the European Union (Frankfurt). PostHog receives the pages viewed, interactions with the site (clicks, searches, shares) and technical errors. To recognise your browser from one visit to the next, it stores a cookie and a local storage entry holding a random identifier, kept for one year after your last visit. This identifier says nothing about you, and PostHog does not keep the IP address. Sessions are not recorded, and this data is never linked to your account or used for anything but statistics. It is kept for one year. You can opt out of this measurement: the cookie is then deleted, PostHog is no longer loaded and your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage.
Contributors
Your email is used to sign you in (magic link) and to let you know when your maps are published. It is never displayed or passed on. Your display name, bio, organisation and links are public on your portfolio. A strictly necessary session cookie is set when you sign in.
Forms
Messages sent through the contact forms are read by the team at Polygonia, the gallery's publisher, and are only used to reply to you. The anti-bot protection works by a calculation in your browser, with no third-party service and no cookie.
