Maps shouldn't get lost.

Every day, remarkable maps are published in the press, on social media or with mapping tools. By gathering them here, we want to make them accessible to everyone, so that they go on inspiring, informing and delighting.

What the gallery does

maps.gallery lists maps and mapping applications from all over the world, interactive or static, whatever tool made them. For each one, it keeps a high-definition preview, writes a summary, files it by theme and by place, and cites its sources. The map stays where its author published it: the gallery links to it and credits them.

For contributors

Submitting a map takes thirty seconds, with no sign-up and no password: a link or an image, and your email. You review the map page prepared for you, follow its views in your space, and your public portfolio brings your work together. Every day, one map is featured.

How map pages are prepared

An artificial intelligence reads the map and its page to suggest a title, a summary, themes, places and sources. These suggestions are reviewed: by the author for their own submissions, by the team for first submissions and indexed maps. A map whose link goes dead keeps its page, marked as archived.

Who is behind it

The gallery is powered by Polygonia, which makes an AI-boosted online GIS. It stays open to everyone: a map made with any other mapping tool has exactly the same place here.
